Fourth clerkship: Nephrology clinical ward
This was the first time for me to enter Hospital Pulau Pinang (HPP) and walked into the ward. It was been years that I didn't enter hospital ward. Everything looked new to me. This time I'm not the visitor anymore, but I'm going to look into the medical record just like a doctor. HAHAHAHA
The experience of handling the cases in real was awesome. Critical thinking was so important and this was the moment for us to apply everything we learnt in class. Doctors' handwriting weren't that bad, only sometimes. Guessing the words was a challenge.
Then, autoclave session started. Ended as expected. No answer for almost every questions asked by the lecturer. As the punishment, extra assignment to do. The lecturer was in hurry and missed the chance to took photo with him. So, it was our own sweet time for photo session. Group A the BEST!! ^^
Fifth clerkship: Home Health Care Service
Hmm.. What kind of service that we were going to provide? Hehe.. actually we just providing our care to the elderly in the nursing home. This was the second time at Silver Jubilee for The Aged. A lot of improvements can be seen as compared to few years ago.
Lesson learnt form this visit, never trust one-sided. The information given by the elderly was totally different from what the patron had said. "Who should I believe?", a question mark was the souvenir from them. First reason of such case to happen is the elderly had impaired memory, second reason is the patron don't like the elderly and third reason the elderly was playing trick with me.
Sixth clerkship: TDM department
I won't deny that math is one of my favourite subjects but with the condition that I can master it well. In this clerkship, understanding and calculation are the most important elements. Some lecturers like to say that this department is treating the level/ value instead of the patient. It seems to be right. But those come from this department will keep remind us, "Always remember that we're treating the patient, not the numbers. So, don't blindly follow the values."
First impression of TDM department. The room is small and half of the space is occupied with the machine and files. Five or six staffs are working in this small room. The environment is stressful and enjoyable at the same time. The most important is the prereceptor, Mr Tang. OMG after few clerkships in hospital or outside of school, he is the first person who willing to teach us, treat us nicely and never forget that he speaks mandarin with us. WAHAHAHA <3
Mr Tang is the head of department and a very busy person. He is nice to his other colleagues. There is no communication gap between them. He is very hardworking as well. Updating his own knowledge frequently. Besides that, once he noticed that you don't know something, he will teach you by giving some real examples. He never tired of answering our questions even though we had asked the same question previously. Learnt a lot of knowledge from him.
Since long long time ago I know that among the people living on this earth there are some people who will feel excited when being showed an journal/ article. But this is the first time I seen in real. His eyes are sparkling when the journal is showed to him and grab it within a second. He is so cuteeee...
Thanks to my groupmate, I got the chance to enter neuro ICU again after few years. It is not the isolated ICU like what I seen in drama but it is same as the one I entered in KT hospital. Now only I can confirm that I had entered ICU before this, as a visitor of course. Handling an so-called X-file make my days more interesting. Experienced a very different thing and got to know that nothing in this world can be expected perfectly.
"You come in with one thing bad and go out with another thing worse, thanks to this small little thingy."
